The 2007 Trends, Opportunities and Priorities Report was based of the Community Consultation held in late 2006 which updated the information included in the 2006 report.

Trades on Tour

The "Trades on Tour" initiative was launched in 2005 when SWOIEC, along with industry and education partners, provided the opportunity for 150 guidance counselors, school administrators and teachers to participate in 3 separate one-day tours of worksites in construction, manufacturing and hospitality.  Industry representatives acted as tour guides and showcased an array of jobs within their occupational sector.  After seeing the variety of challenging and rewarding careers, teachers returned to their classrooms as excited advocates who could offer career advice with first-hand knowledge and enthusiasm.

One resounding comment heard repeatedly from our “touring teachers” was “I wish my students could see this”.  Our industry and educator partners made that happen in 2006.  Students were selected based on aptitude, attitude and interest  in Construction, Transportation and Logistics and Hospitality.  All tours were completed by the end of February  and were enjoyed by all participants.
